JGA was founded in 1976 with a vision to provide opportunities for organized golf and to promote play at Jamestown Park Golf Course.
Our History
1976
The Jamestown Golf Association was founded by Ray Bellow and Art Sheek at Jamestown Park Golf Course. The JGA held its first Club Championship that fall and Jack Wrenn was crowned our association’s first champion.
1977
The M.L. Holton Championship(JGA Invitational) began.
1983
Jerry Southern makes it a three peat winning his third straight JGA Club Championship.
1991
In June 1991, JGA member Jay Gardner sets the course record at Jamestown Park shooting 30-32-62.
1994
Harold Rush claims his fourth JGA Club Championship. His fourth title in eight years.
2000
Jay Gardner wins his fifth straight Club Championship.
2005
The JGA Match Play Championship began.
2006
Jay Gardner makes one more trip to the winner’s circle earning his seventh JGA Club Championship title. A record that still stands.
2009
The JGA board of directors voted to make Ray Bellow and Art Sheek honorary lifetime JGA members to acknowledge their dedication and hard work over the years with the JGA.
2013
George Kennon completes the senior three peat winning his third straight Senior Club Championship
2015
The JGA board of directors voted to make Paul Duval an honorary lifetime JGA member to acknowledge his dedication and hard work over the years with the JGA.
2016
The JGA board of directors voted to make Michael Hutcheon an honorary lifetime JGA member to acknowledge his dedication and hard work over the years with the JGA.
2021
After nine years since his last victory, Jay McGhee wins another JGA Club Championship in an entertaining playoff. This win secured his fourth Club Championship title.
The JGA year-end awards dinner was established to celebrate the year with friends, recap the season, and acknowledge our Club Champion and Senior Club Champions.
NOW
We are now an established golf association that continues to grow and we hope that continues for years to come. Our board members are always looking for ways to improve our golf association and our member’s experiences. Stay tuned for more great things to come within our association and more history to be made.
